چکیده

In this paper a study of the acoustical response of a new built church is shown. This study is based on the measurement of reverberation time, adopting the noise interrupted method, according to the International Standard. This method allows to evaluate the reverberation time by means of acoustical sound level acquisition and analysis. The reverberation time is one of the principal parameters to be optimized in order to design and/or verify the acoustical behaviour of a room and consequently to guarantee a good people hearing sensation. In a post-opera intervention, the reverberation time can be improved modifying the reflecting surfaces of walls, floor and roof, in order to reduce the energetic contributions of late reflections. This improvement can be achieved by replacing or covering reflecting surfaces with absorbing panels or carpets. The design of an appropriate intervention can be aided by a dedicated simulation software, as it is shown in the last part of the paper. Key-Words: Acoustical Field, Church Acoustics, Reverberation Time, Simulation Software.

Planarity Analysis of Room Acoustics for Object-based Reverberation

Recent work into 3D audio reproduction has considered the definition of a set of parameters to encode reverberation into an object-based audio scene. The reverberant spatial audio object (RSAO) describes the reverberation in terms of a set of localised, delayed and filtered (early) reflections, together with a late energy envelope modelling the diffuse late decay. The planarity metric, original...

Church Acoustics Measurements and Analysis

The measurement of Reverberation Time (RT) is a quite important estimation of the sound quality in a closed environment. From this measurement, in fact, one can gain information about intelligibility of signals and amount of reflection energy. In particular the liturgical hall of a church is an interesting environment because of its relevant volume and the materials adopted for the interior des...

Reliability of estimating the room volume from a single room impulse response.

The methods investigated for the room volume estimation are based on geometrical acoustics, eigenmode, and diffuse field models and no data other than the room impulse response are available. The measurements include several receiver positions in a total of 12 rooms of vastly different sizes and acoustic characteristics. The limitations in identifying the pivotal specular reflections of the geo...

A Simple Formula for Predicting the Reverberation Time in Long Enclosures

Reverberation time is one of the key elements for assessing the perception of sound in an enclosed space. It affects the noise propagation, speech intelligibility, clarity index, and definition. Since sound field in the long enclosure is non diffuse, classical room acoustics theory does not apply in long enclosures. Since 1960s, a number of theoretical investigations relating to sound propagati...

Optimal Acoustic Reverberation Evaluation of Byzantine Chanting in Churches

Byzantine chants constitute a form of monophonic vocal music characterized by lengthy phrases and by musical scales with intervals smaller than the western music semitones. Byzantine churches have extremely long Reverberation Time and their acoustics is dominated by the contributions of the diffuse sound field. Thus, the sound character of Byzantine chanting is closely linked to the acoustic re...
